Children sent to war

I read an article Stolen kids turned into terrifying killers written by Ann O’Neill. This article discusses that children are being forced to join the war. Some children are recruited to join after the child has seen their parents being killed; others are kidnapped from school or their own beds.

In my opinion, the government needs to find a way to catch a lot of children who are sent to war. So many children are going to war, this article estimated that around 250,000 children become soldiers and some are as young as eight years old. Some of them become fighters, sex slaves, spies or even human shields. In my opinion, these children are too young to be sent to war. Children are not aware of what they are doing. Many children are brainwashed by this, and many are given drugs before sent to war.

I wonder how children can become experts at killing people older than them. Honestly, how does this work? It does not make sense at all. Children are also taught to kill people in the same age group. For example, a girl name Angela who was twelve years old was forced to shoot her own friend when she joined the war. Seeing a young girl having to kill her own friend is a very tragedy thing for me to see. She is so young that she does not understand why she has to kill a friend. The commander told her she had to learn to bury her friend and put dirt on top of her. She also had to learn not to cry.

First of all, these children should not be forced to go to war. Second of all, these children should not be taught to kill their own friend. We are supposed to be fighting against our enemies, not our friends. Imagine these children having to use a gun that is taller than some of them.

In my opinion, the government needs to stop this. The government needs to set up cops or specific upper people to watch before the war starts to make sure there are no children there. These people who forced these children to go to war should be put behind the bars. Children do not deserve to go through this with no real childhood. This is a very scary thing and again, children are not aware of what they are doing. They are not told why they have to go to war, no one sits down and explains to them why they are sent to war. They should not be sent to war in the first place. What are your thoughts, feelings, and comments? How can we stop from these children going to war?

Children Trafficking in Cambodia

I just read an article “Emphasis On Education Key to Alleviating Child Trafficking In Cambodia.” written by Jennifer Rinker. A non-profit organization visited the Sao Sary Foundation (SSF). SSF is a house where children can attend school, develop skills, be in a safer environment than their homes, and so on.

SSF was founded in 2006 to help the poor children get an education. SSF also helped children have a better life. Instead of these children going through violence, exploitation, and abuse they were going to school to lead to a better life. The most common children go through in Cambodia is child trafficking.

One single-mother had a house with no walls and her beautiful daughter kept on being in danger of abduction and trafficking. SSF helped rebuild their home. SSF also taught families how to run a business so their children can lead to a better life. For example, SSF taught a mother how to raise fish and grow rice so her daughter could be kept safe. SSF goal is to give children in Cambodia an education, not only that, but also to keep children out of risk of trafficking.

In my opinion, I think the non-profit organization, SSF, is a great idea. I am happy with that organization; thankful for the people who really want to support children in Cambodia and keep children out of danger. This article made me think that I should join a non-profit organization because it would make a difference in children’s life. Everyone should take a part of this; it doesn’t take only one person to do it. It takes the whole community to make something happen.

In addition, I do not know why the government in Cambodia does not protect the children’s right. Human trafficking has increased because of the following: poverty, SES imbalance in rural and urban areas, increased tourism, and so on (http://www.humantrafficking.org/countries/cambodia ). Visit that website for more information. That includes the rights of education.

In my opinion, I think the government does not do the best on the government’s part. They are not protecting children from human trafficking. And, where are the children’s right of education. It is sad to see the government remain on the “Watch list” since 2005 because they have not increased the effort to protect children from trafficking. This includes children being forced to work in factories and in the homes. The government overlooks many of the children going through a childhood they should not have to go through. Any thoughts or comments?

Hunger in India

I just read an article “The hidden hunger behind India’s huge success,” written by Matt Wade in Khandwa, Central India. This article is about a young baby that is only four months old but weights 3 pounds and 4.8 ounces. The mother’s milk has dried up, so she couldn’t feed her four month old baby. About one-third of the World Health Organization says this is normal for this age. The way her skin looks like in this picture is a sign of malnutrition (Wade, 2009).

India has been one of the fastest growing economy and average income has increase rapidly for some years. The group of middle class in India has been growing rapidly. About 230 million people in India go through hunger. One-forth of the world’s hunger is in India (Wade,2009).
Prakash mentioned that India is getting new malls and shopping centres but the children in India are dying of hunger. Children were sent to the goveremnt rehabilitation centers to get food for the children so they can go through development both physically and mentally (Wade,2009).

When the Government got this request, the goverement was in denial. The government said the children are dying from seasonal illness, not malnutrition. The government will not admit that the children are dying from hunger because that will be considered a state failure (Wade,2009).
More and more people could by food from the open markets instead of getting crops from farmers (Wade,2009).

In my opinion, I think that it is ironic that India has been one of the fastest growing economy and they still have children that suffer hunger. I think that the crops should continue and the open market should stop in all countries. We can start eating healthier for cheaper money. India has a lot of money but they use the money for other things, such as, feeding their children who suffer through hunger.

The government is in denial that the children are not going through hunger. Some action needs to be done because there is evidence that children are dying from hunger. One out of ten children died due to hunger. There are no evidence that these children are dying from seasonal illness.

India’s government has a lot of cleaning up to do. They need to be educated that these children are dying from hunger. Denial and covering up will not help these children at all. Any thoughts, comments or ideas?
